A bonded warehouse (Vietnamese: kho ngoai quan) is a licensed, customs-supervised storage facility where imported goods can be held without the immediate payment of import duties. Businesses only pay tax when goods are formally released for domestic consumption — or re-export them entirely duty-free. In Vietnam, this is governed by Customs Law No. 54/2014/QH13, Decree 08/2015/ND-CP, and Circular 39/2018/TT-BTC.

A bonded warehouse (kho ngoai quan) is a storage facility licensed and supervised by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, where you can store imported goods without paying import duty upfront. Under Vietnam's Customs Law 2014, import businesses — including e-commerce sellers, distributors, and logistics companies — are all entitled to use one. Duty is only payable when goods are released from the warehouse for domestic sale or export.
Under current regulations, goods may be held in a bonded warehouse for up to 12 months from the date the customs declaration is registered. In exceptional cases, this period may be extended subject to approval by the relevant Customs authority. This makes bonded warehousing a highly effective cash flow management tool for businesses importing in large volumes but distributing gradually over time.
Amilo's primary infrastructure is centered in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding industrial zones in Binh Duong and Long An provinces. However, Amilo offers free nationwide pickup, meaning businesses based in Hanoi, Hai Phong, or Da Nang can use the service without incurring additional domestic freight costs to get goods to the warehouse.
Amilo's bonded warehouse fees are calculated based on: (1) storage space or volume used, (2) duration of storage, and (3) the number of orders processed per month. There is no account opening fee and no deposit is required. For accurate pricing tailored to your specific volume and operational needs, contact Amilo's sales team directly — the initial consultation is free.
Absolutely — bonded warehousing is one of the most strategically powerful models available for cross-border e-commerce sellers. By importing a large batch from China or another origin country into a bonded warehouse, you can process individual B2C orders in real time without locking up capital in import duties across the entire stock. Amilo integrates directly with Shopify, eBay, and other platforms via API for seamless order management.
Yes — this is one of the most significant legal advantages of bonded warehousing. Goods that have not been customs-cleared for the domestic market can be re-exported to any destination without triggering Vietnamese import duty. This is precisely why many ASEAN-focused businesses choose Vietnam as a transit and distribution hub, redirecting inventory to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia as demand dictates.
Amilo guarantees account activation within 2 business days. No deposit is required and there is no registration fee. Once your account is live, you can immediately create shipments via the Amilo web interface or connect via API to your existing order management system. Amilo's customer care team provides direct support throughout the onboarding process.
